Bay of Plenty Regional Council staff are calling on the public to help find the culprits who stole a trailer, a new solar electric fence unit and hundreds of litres of diesel from one of their work sites.

"Have you seen our gear?!" writes a council staff member to their Facebook page.

"On Thursday morning, our rivers and drainage team were shocked to find their equipment stolen when they returned to their work site at Ngongotahā Stream.

"As part of the team's mahi to support community access to the stream, they had been working on a section near the Agrodome to improve the flow of the stream and clear weeds."

A tandem Prescott trailer (rego 9U300) and a new solar electric fence unit were taken and three excavators were drained of more than 400L of diesel.

"The thieves also left gates open between two properties and onto State Highway 5, letting stock roam free on the highway," says a council spokesperson.

"If anyone has spotted our gear around town, or noticed any unusual activity around the Agrodome, Rotorua A&P Showgrounds and Ngati Whakaue Tribal Lands in this area, please let us or New Zealand Police know (Reference Number 220901/5664)."

The stolen tandem Presott trailer is similar to the one pictured above.
