A man who was reported missing earlier this week has been found dead.

The 65-year-old man was reported missing in the Waitakaruru area.

Police say he had been missing since September 1.

In a statement this morning, a police spokesperson confirmed that the man "has sadly been located deceased".

"Police wish to extend their condolences to his family and friends at this distressing time.

"We would also like to thank the community for their assistance."

The man's death is now been referred to the Coroner.
