JPC, who sat in the bottom half of the standings, entering the resumption of competition after the July holiday break, squared off against Trident High School in the final title decider at the Paengaroa Domain.

In what turned out to be a battle of attrition - both sides looked to find dominance in their forward packs.

Trident captain Cameron Watkins kicked a near 50metre penalty to open the scoring.

The Rotorua side replied with a penalty goal to Petelo Kelemete. The first try of the match came when Tremayne Watson scooped up the ball and ran 15 metres to score with the Kelemete conversion giving JPC a 10-3 lead at the break.

With the clock ticking down, Trident tied the score with a touch down to Cameron Rio-Kemoroa, which was converted by Maia Westrupp.

JPC missed a penalty attempt in front of the posts to seal the game, before JPC open side flanker Joshua White crashed over in the last minute of the match to give John Paul College the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Division One premiership.

In the Division Two playoff, Reporoa College also came from fourth qualifier to win the title decider against Aquinas College. While the team from the southern Bay of Plenty border lead 12 nil at the half way stage, they cut loose in the second spell to post an emphatic 38 nil victory.

The Rotorua Boys' High School under-15 A youngsters won the Division Three crown in a Rotorua derby against Rotorua Lakes 1XV. After taking a 15-5 advantage into the break, they went on to post a 35-5 win. Tauranga Boys' College under-15 A representatives came from a 12-5 deficit at half time, to defeat Western Heights High School 2XV, 20-17 in the Second Fifteen title race.
