Tauranga Te Papa Rotary club are gearing up for their 'cash or cans' fundraiser tomorrow, where they are asking members of the public to donate towards helping struggling Tauranga families with the cost of living.

Volunteers will be at their stall in Countdown Fraser Cove to collect donations from 10am to 6pm tomorrow, September 13.

Tauranga Te Papa Rotary Club member Simon Ellis says initiatives like these are "part of what Rotary is all about".

"Foodbanks are in huge need of support at the moment, so about three or four times a year we run this with our club volunteers. All donated food items and proceeds will be going towards Tauranga Foodbank," says Simon.

"We ask people to donate a can of food, a box of weet-bix or other item that is non-perishable and nutritious.

"We'll be outside the supermarket, if people would like to donate they can go in and buy a surplus non-perishable food item to drop into us on the way out and we'll donate it straight to the foodbank.

Simon adds eftpos will also be available for people to donate money towards Tauranga Foodbank.

When asked about the cost of living crisis impacting the significance of the fundraiser, Simon says this type of fundraiser is "always important".

"It's important all the time, but the need at the moment is quite high. Voluntary organisations such as Tauranga Foodbank and many others are most probably under lots of pressure.

"If we can get people to get stuck in and help out, that would be awesome and hopefully will alleviate some of that pressure."
