Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 41 near Tokaanu, north of Turangi.

Police say that the single vehicle crash was reported just before 3.30pm.

"The vehicle has gone off the road down a bank," says a police spokesperson.

"The occupants are not seriously injured but remain trapped in the vehicle."

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road will be closed while the occupants are removed.
