A jolly good spring clean in Te Puke is planned this Wednesday as part of the Keep NZ Beautiful week.

Epic Te Puke's marketing and promotions manager Rebecca Larsen is inviting everyone to get out and help pick up rubbish along the main streets of Te Puke from 3pm-6pm.

'We want to cover the playgrounds, parks, gardens and car parking areas in downtown Te Puke.”

Afterwards the Daily Café is throwing a pizza party for the rubbish collectors.

'We often get teams from different organisations and business participating, they'll be wearing their own hi-vis vests to be seen out in the community.”

Rebecca says council will weigh and sort the rubbish so the results can be counted and added to New Zealand's total.

'We've done this for a couple of years now, but last year it was affected by the weather and Covid.

'We can't do the 100km areas outside of town, so we encourage the community to pick up rubbish in their own locals streets, parks and gutters.”

So now we have to clean up our own towns? Absolutely fantastic of these people to be doing this but with the enormous rates we are paying in Te Puke this should not have to be done by the locals.
