UPDATE: A large number of vehicles are reported to have flat tyres on State Highway 29 this evening.

A police spokesperson says they have a unit on the highway assisting with traffic control.

"We have received multiple calls regarding motorists with flat tyres, near the lower Kaimais on SH29.

"I understand there is some congestion in the area."

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there are potholes on the road.

People are advised to either avoid the area or drastically reduce their speed when travelling through.

A Waka Kotahi NZ Transport spokesperson says their call centre has received a couple of calls and contractors are on the way to assess the situation.

"They will see what temporary fixes are possible for potholes and whether traffic management is needed to keep road users safe.

"Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency reminds everyone to drive to the conditions and take extra care on the roads in this weather."

Not a good day for New Zealand Transport Agency.Once again this shows up the poor quality of their service and poor state of our roads that we pay large amounts of tax for. (via petrol tax)

Endangering the public

Council says potholes aren't their problem, not quite sure who to contact at WakaNonsense - how come the NZ Police can be "at the scene", the scene that has been developing for some time, the scene that NZ police regularly drive over but can't seem to require resolving. Here's an idea, how about charging the NZTA regional director with neglecting their duties and endangering the public by not ensuring BOP roads are fit for purpose.

Thanks Cindy

Roading, just another miserable failing of the present Government. More accidents, more deaths, roads are crumbling, roll on the elections

Repair roads vs Beautify foot paths

Posted on 01-10-2022 14:23 | By oceans

The Government both central and local seem to be spending huge amounts of money beautifying footpaths and cycle tracks rather than repairing roads. Too many roads in major cities are becoming like the streets of undeveloped country streets. The many drivers who had the misfortune of getting a puncture should send the bill the whichever authority is responsible for the upkeep of highway roading. The fact that is was only tyre puncture is bad enough but damage to the suspension or other parts of the car would be intolerable.

Zero crashes

With the state of the roads, we will rapidly achieve zero road toll because we will have to have somebody walking in front of the vehicles to point out the potholes.

Priorities

Posted on 01-10-2022 18:36 | By Kancho

Always blame the previous government wears thin after over five years of their government . Spending on wire rope barriers, bike and bus lanes, adverts on TV six million, even a quarter of a million on an opening event for transmission gully,. Money for middle class welfare subsidies for EV cars. So government have claimed they have put money in , well seems a lot of it is going on the wrong work. Priorities all wrong. Like billions on carbon reduction while people can't feed or house families. PRIORITIES WRONG.
