Several road users are reporting light snow in the Bay of Plenty tonight, with State Highway 36 and Mamaku being two spots facing the icy weather.
One video sent to SunLive shows the first flakes falling in on SH36 near TECT Park.
This comes as an "Antarctic blast" sweeps across New Zealand this week, closing SH1 Desert Road earlier this morning.
There are currently several road closures in the South Island, with a number of places facing sub-zero temperatures at the start of today.
MetService wouldn't have a clearer picture of the extent of the snow until people started sending in reports, says a post by Stuff.
"Judging by the temperatures of a lot of places - a lot of places are in the negatives - and it's raining. So it's probably pretty safe to say it's snowing."
According to WeatherWatch.co.nz, temperatures were scheduled to plummet from the Antarctic blast Wednesday, October 5, and today, October 6.
