Campbell set to finish on high

Tauranga's Phil Campbell is looking to finish the season on a high at the final round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, powered by Brother, at Rally Gisborne.

Campbell and co-driver Venita Fabbro will be looking to repeat their result at the event last year when they finished fifth overall, narrowly missing out on fourth. Although Gisborne was not a championship round, it was a strong result.

Phil comes into the event sitting second in the Group N two-wheel drive points standings, despite missing the previous round, Rally New Zealand.

Although he will require other results to go his way, a championship win is still on the cards, but he is guaranteed to maintain his second place, which will be a career best result.

Having not competed since Rally Otago in May, Phil had a successful test on Sunday to not only shakedown the rebuilt Letts Construction Ford Fiesta, but also get back to full speed so he can attack the fast-flowing Gisborne roads from the very first stage.

'I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel at Gisborne, they are some really good roads down there,” says Phil.

'It was really good to do some testing so hopefully we can repeat the result from last year.”

The Gisborne Vehicle Testing Waikanae Beach Holiday Park Rally Gisborne begins with a ceremonial start on Friday night.

Crews will leave Reads Quay at 7am on Saturday morning before tackling seven special stages totalling 170km.

A further five stages the following day add another 125km of special stages before the finish back at Reads Quay on Sunday afternoon.
