Police are making enquiries after a body was found in the Waikato River near Driver Road West, Ngāruawāhia.

Police were called at around 2.30pm on Thursday, when a member of the public spotted the body.

"Police will not be in a position to confirm identity until the formal identification process has been completed," says a police spokesperson.

"Further updates will be provided when they are available."
