Update, 2.14pm: The Aerocool Rescue Helicopter has landed at Mount Maunganui Main Beach, joining emergency services there following an incident at Moturiki.

The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service, ambulance and Police have responded to an alarm raised by members of the public.

A SunLive reader reports that the lifeguard service sent an IRB with lifeguards out to Moturiki to help a person in the water.
