On this week's Buzzworthy ‘Food Buzz' podcast, hosts Dawn Kiddie and Maddie Hughes sit down with Real Rad Food owner Hannah Melsop to talk about her amazing journey on how Real Rad Food started.

Hannah chats about her joys and challenges of starting a plant based, raw food company, along with food trends and her bestselling flavours.

'Real Rad Food is a health food company, we do everything from slices you can order online and find in a few cafes, we have range of supplements, as well as bliss ball premixes which are found in supermarkets across the country,” says Hannah.

'I guess it started way back when I was in university, which is about seven years ago now. I was working in a café with all these plant based foods and loved the plant based food scene, and decided to create an Instagram I ran throughout all my years at university.

'Fast forward a few years, and I decided to turn it from an Instagram food account to a business, and we started to go to markets to sell the cakes and slices. We established the business in 2017, starting with markets and wholesaling to cafes, and from there we developed the ambient or ‘dry' products which you can see in supermarkets now.”

Hannah says her Rad Ball Mix products, now stoked in supermarkets, initially started as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, where the company was 'losing a lot of revenue” to cafes during lockdowns and periods of restrictions.

'We asked how we could make a product that could be an everyday item that someone can buy in the supermarket to have Real Rad Food in people's pantries across the country.”

Hannah says during her time at university she 'fell in love” with making food and social media marketing.
