A section of the top carpark at the Pilot Bay boat ramp will be closed on Monday, December 5 from 6am – 3pm, to allow for some rocks to be safely removed from the water.
The boat ramp will remain open to the public during the removal process.
Tauranga City Council says that the rocks will be incorporated into the Mauao Placemaking project, forming parts of Te Puna Waitapu and Waipatukakahu landscaping elements.
Mauao Placemaking
Ko Mauao te Maunga, ko Tauranga te Moana. Mauao is the mountain, and Tauranga is the sea.
An icon and taonga here in Tauranga Moana, Mauao has long stood as a beacon for those returning home or visiting.
A collaborative project between Tauranga City Council and Ngā Poutiriao ō Mauao (the Mauao Joint Administration Board), Mauao Placemaking sets out to share the rich history and stories that Mauao holds through new wayfinding signage and cultural touchpoints across the maunga (mountain).
The project encourages those that call Tauranga Moana home to rediscover the history of the maunga and for those visiting to immerse themselves in the history of Mauao.

Does the council have unlimited money ? I just don't see this as a priority when we should be cutting costs due to rampant inflation!

Had their memorials ripped out by TCC that couldn't give a rats butt about them. Both Jed and Shadow1 make good and honest comments. It seems a single minority culture is more important to TCC, to the Government, to Mahuta's puppets than ALL the people that call it home. Evidenced by ripping out families memorials, families hearts and tossing what's left of them aside.

TCC are deliberately wasting money to put rates up and rate us out of our homes. It's part of their plan. They have zero respect for ratepayers who they see ss their own ATM machine. The waste of our money is criminal and negligent. I know several people who will be forced to sell and move away.
