Christmas cheer and charm brought many Greerton villagers out on Friday to the annual 'Christmas around the Tree' event.

A sense of fun with Christmas in the air has been pervading the Greerton Village shops this week as retailers have been surprising random shoppers with free gifts, something they aim to continue doing right up until the week before Christmas.

On Friday evening, the Greerton Village Square in front of the Greerton Library was full of community vibe centred around a large Christmas tree, with music, dancers, entertainers, a band and of course Santa himself enjoying the warm evening air.

The Whittakers played catchy music, with Inachord and the United Greenpark School singing. Tauranga Moana Dancers from Greenpark School, a juggling Christmas Elf on a cycle and Frith Mudge, a much-loved local face painter all added to the enjoyable evening, as people sat around the tree on chairs and cushions.

"It was a great evening in Greerton with our Christmas show,' says Greerton Village Mainstreet Manager Sally Benning.

"Thanks to all who turned up, to our Greerton Lions, to our board members, to our choirs and dancers, Santa and Frith the face painter who all helped to make this a lovely evening, not forgetting Ewan our fantastic MC and The Whittakers band,' says Sally.

There's a lot of Christmas fun happening in Greerton Village this month with 'Random Acts of Christmas' running from November 28 - December 18.

A selection of businesses in Greerton Village will be giving away gifts to random people - just for shopping in Greerton - as a random act of kindness to celebrate the Christmas season.
