A ute is stuck in the Waikareao Estuary in Tauranga.
Photos sent to SunLive show the Toyota Hilux in the middle of the estuary.
A police spokesperon says emergency services were called to Ngai Tamarawaho Cres about 6.45pm, following reports of the ute going into the water.
Police say the two occupants of the vehicle made their own way back to dry land.
Officers are investigating the incident.

Were they so frustrated with all the road works they thought this was a short cut?
