Christmas lights spreading joy

The winner of The Weekend Sun's Christmas Lights Drive competition has been announced!

Roz Irwin's amazing set-up at Five Weka St stole the show with an immersive, walk-through light display.

From inflatable light up reindeers, polar bears, penguins and Santa's – there's a lot to be marvelled at within this twinkling wonderland.

After her children's father, Ken Irwin, who was into the Christmas light scene passed away last year – Roz wanted to go all out for her 14-year-old-twins Kody Irwin and Sammy Irwin, with the lights.

'I thought: ‘You know what, we need to do something to bring a bit of joy to them' and they like seeing other people being happy so I thought ‘Let's go for it this year'.”

'Everyone has tough times in their lives…if I can bring a little bit of joy to people's lives I've done my part.”

And she's already planning for the next silly season. 'Next year is going to be bigger because we've got the bug now!”

Roz has won a $250 hamper for her efforts.

Only A Few

Only the rich and the wealthy can stand any chance of winning this. Only they can have the surplus cash to spend thousands on lights to use for 3 or 4 weeks a year. Sure they look magical and magnificent and I love them but it's an unfair competition.
