A new Tauranga restaurant is honouring the opening of their business by giving back to the community with a free Christmas lunch for those who need it.

Castle 91 manager Mike Dhillion says that when starting up a new business his team's aim is to start from a place of good community work.

'We get back from the community when we give to the community.”

This will be the Castle 91 team's second restaurant to be established in Tauranga, where they have provided free lunches from their Greerton business in previous years.

'During Omicron Covid-19 we did free lunches and free meals for people who were in need because they couldn't afford to go out or they couldn't buy their dinner because of sickness, or because they lost their job.”

This Sunday, Mike and the team will be supporting the community again before they officially open the second Castle 91 on Tuesday, January 17.
'We're just calling it a community Christmas or New Year lunch and it's for people who couldn't go out if they were sick, or any reason they couldn't celebrate Christmas or New Year.

'We're just open for the community on Sunday. We're not doing any business that day.” Mike says the free lunch is for anyone in genuine need or who couldn't afford a lunch on Christmas.

The Castle 91 crew will be dishing up some classic Indian cuisine including butter chicken, chicken korma, and vegetarian meals, says Mike.

He adds that there will also be gluten and dairy free options to cater for other dietary requirements.

'We're just excited that we can do something for the community even if it's just a little thing.”

Mike says he and the team are excited to announce they will be doing more events like this for the local community in future.

The free lunch will run from 11am - 2pm at Castle91, Unit 2, Jude Place, Brookfield on Sunday, January 15.
