Juicy Fest: Refunds “promised too soon”

Social media users and SunLive readers are expressing their concern with delayed refunds from Tauranga's Juicy Fest. Event promoter Glenn Meikle says the team promised refunds "too soon".

"We're trying to speed up the process to get people their money back as soon as possible," says Glenn.

On the promise of issuing refunds after 14 days, Glenn says he and the wider Juicy Fest team "probably didn't do enough homework".

"Refunding is quite a major process, and we're almost there. At the end of the day, people will still get their refund," he says.

Glenn adds the Juicy Fest team has been "quite frustrated" with the lengthy refund process after the event was cancelled on January 6, and feels for the customers who are waiting for their money back.

"It's a lot of money and people will want it back. I can totally appreciate the concern. We promised something we couldn't achieve but now we're getting to the stage where we can get those refunds back."

One Love, another festival which Glenn promotes, was also cancelled due to weather. Glenn says the team has learned from the Juicy Fest refund process, and had promised a longer window of 30 days for people to expect their refund.

"We learned that it takes a bit more time, and we didn't want to promise something we couldn't achieve. This gave us a bit more of a realistic time frame."

After Consumer NZ told Stuff ticket holders "should not have to wait" for an insurance claim, Glenn says the event is not waiting for an insurance claim, and is in fact waiting on the process of getting people their refunds.

This comes after the event sent out an email which says "we must follow all appropriate processes before we can access these funds, which are all part of normal insurance processes".

The insurance hold up causing refund delays was also mentioned to SunLive last month.

Hold ups aside, Glenn says Juicy Fest is closer to being able to issue refunds, and is working to put out some direct communication to ticket holders very soon.
