There have been a number of reports of traffic building up tonight on State Highway 2, Tauranga to Katikati following concrete works near Morton Road.
A New Zealand Transport Agency spokesperson says the concrete works are now complete, meaning there will be "no stop/go tomorrow" in the area.
One resident in the area told SunLive it took "about an hour" to get from Tauranga to Katikati.
Another caller into SunLive described the traffic as "frustrating".
"It took me about 15 minutes to get from Tetley Road to Hot Springs Road," says the caller.
The distance between the two roads is 1.2km.

Another caller says the traffic has "been holding them up for ages".
"People have stopped their cars and have gotten out. It's like they've just given up."
A New Zealand Transport Agency spokesperson says the concrete work was finished today, so there "will be no more stop/go tomorrow".
"The crew working on the stretch of SH2 between Waihī and Ōmokoroa would like to thank people for their patience while concrete works took place this week at Morton Road," says the NZTA spokesperson.
"Work completed at Morton includes pavement works where we have finished laying the aggregate for the roundabout and concrete and chipseal surfacing this week," says the spokesperson.
"This is the second of six new roundabouts that will be built between Katikati and Ōmokoroa, providing safe turnaround points when flexible median barrier is installed."

So it took 15 minutes to travel 1.2 kilometres. Wow that's half the time it can take through Greerton to Barkes corner.
Open roads during rush hour

Works need to be planned around rush hours. 7.30 to 9.00 and 4.30 to 5.30, contractors should have all lanes open, and work around traffic. Yesterday, 9.00am a lawn mowing team were driving up State Hiway 2 through Te Puna towards Tauranga, sitting on 40 kph, 2 tractors and 3 safety trucks, with about 5 kilometers of traffic banked up behind them. This should not be allowed in times of high traffic movement
Joke

The State Highway between Tauranga, Katikati and Waihi Beach turn-off is such a joke. I have seen back country roads in better conditions than this.
