Police are appealing to the public as work continues to locate three remand prisoners who escaped custody in Auckland.

Zane Hepi, 24, Billy Fepulea'i, 43, and 45-year-old Joseph Ng Wun fled on foot from a transport van on the South-Eastern highway on Friday afternoon, before stealing a vehicle from a member of the public.

"Enquiries have been ongoing to locate the trio by a dedicated team of officers, and we are today appealing to the public for information to help us," says Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong.

The men have connections across Counties Manukau and Auckland City.

The men are considered dangerous and should not be approached – however, if you see them Police urge you to call 111 immediately.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Where

Where do these boys hope to run to in NZ. All they're doing is delaying the inevitable and getting, I would hope, longer sentences with more serious charges. I hope they realise, although it might be a bit too much to expect from them, that real men wouldn't run from what they've done. Man up, face up.

I liked your post and endorse what you said. It always amuses me that criminals seem to forget that we live on islands. There is nowhere to run to, no "State Line" or borders, where jurisdiction ceases. With facial recognition systems increasingly used at airports and seaports, the chances of getting out of the country are diminishing. If you are unknown to Police, and move quickly, you MIGHT get to Oz, but even then, they are throwing Kiwi criminals back to us. These guys saw an opportunity and took it. They didn't think it through. I hope, as reason returns, that they will man up, as you say.
