Police are asking for the public's help as they work through the people still listed uncontactable after Cyclone Gabrielle.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 1131 people remained on the list and Police Commmissoner Andrew Coster says about 100 police staff are dedicated to reconnecting people and figuring out who is actually missing.

They are asking people to register on the police website if they, or a person they were concerned for, is now safe. Eleven people have been confirmed killed in the cyclone.

To assist the recovery, applications for $25 million worth of grants are open to farmers and growers on the Ministry for Primary Industries' website.

And as the arduous task of removing mountains of silt continues, there is a warning about toxic dust which can cause respiratory issues, and make existing health conditions worse.

Health officials are advising people to cover up with gloves, masks, long sleeved clothing, and be diligent with hand-washing.

Water restrictions remain in Gisborne and Wairoa residents are still being told to boil their water.

More supplies arrived in Napier on Tuesday evening, with the arrival of HMNZS Canterbury loaded with Bailey bridges, generators, gas bottles, and emergency packs from Ngāi Tahu.

Elsewhere in the country , there has been a breakthrough in the Coromandel - trucks and trailers can now use State Highway 25.
