Te Puke's Super Liquor owner Ash Peat is 'disappointed” after his store was broken into overnight.

Ash says he was called at approximately 12am on Monday, February 26 after someone had 'thrown a rock through the windows”.

After going to the store and boarding the windows up, Ash thought he may be out of the woods.

Unfortunately, he suspects the same person or group of people came back.

Ash received another call at 1am to come to the store, as the boarders had been broken down, and they had stolen 'quite a bit” of store items inside.

'There's some fairly decent sized windows that were broken, but as far as stock we haven't quantified how much we have lost yet.”

Despite 'increasing security” over the past few years, Ash says there is always a risk in the retail business.

'At first I thought ‘oh well, at least nothing was taken' but unfortunately we had the next call come in at about 1am. It's not a very nice way to start the week.”

Police responded to the first report at 11.50pm. Photo: Tyson Smith.

Ash says the team is working through gathering CCTV footage of the event and police have been contacted.

A police spokesperson says police at first responded to reports of a window being smashed at a commercial premises on Jellicoe Street, Te Puke at around 11.50pm.

"Their was no entry, and two of those involved were spoken to.

'Enquiries are ongoing.”
