Violent attack: Victims & alleged offenders sought

The series of violent assaults took place on December 9, 2022.

Police are continuing to investigate a series of violent assaults which took place on December 9, 2022, at Mount Social bar in Mt Maunganui.

Late in the evening, a group of men, police believe are members or associates of the Greazy Dogs gang, went into the bar, reads a post on the Bay of Plenty & Taupo Police Facebook page.

'They have knocked the victim unconscious, completely unprovoked.

'He was taken to hospital and has been left with significant facial injuries which he continues to recover from.

'He has reported the incident to police three days later and subsequent enquiries by officers have identified two further separate victims who were also punched, and we believe based off CCTV, have also been knocked unconscious.”

An investigation into the attack has led to the arrest of two people allegedly involved.

Two men, aged 32 and 28, are both charged with wounds with intent to injure and common assault.

The 32-year-old is next due to appear in Tauranga District Court on March 20 and the 28-year-old man appeared in Tauranga District Court on Monday, March 6.

Police have released CCTV images of two men they believe can assist them in their investigation.

'We are now releasing images of two further men we believe can assist police with our enquiries and would ask anyone who knows who these men are to contact police as soon as possible,” says police.

'The violence shown by those allegedly involved that evening was incredibly concerning to Police and so we are treating these incidents extremely seriously.”

Police say another challenge they face in this investigation, is that they have not been able to identify the other two other victims and would very much like to speak with them and make sure they are okay.

'We would ask that anyone who was at the bar that night and knows who the victims are to contact Police.

'We know that they might be feeling very shaken by what happened but assure them they can come and speak to Police in a safe environment.

'Anyone who knows who these victims are, is urged to contact Police on 105 or visit their local station.

'We thank our community for their assistance with these matters.”

Information can be passed onto police via 105 quoting file number 221212/5821 or alternatively you can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
