The second happiest person in Tauranga today is Linda Zeng at AJ's Lotto & Tobacconist in Devonport Road.
Linda and husband Jensen co-own the lucky lotto store that sold last night's winning $27million Big Wednesday ticket.
AJ's Lotto & Tobacconist owner Linda Zeng is waiting for the lucky $27million ticket owner to collect their prize.
'$27 million, sold here – I'm so happy,” she says today.
'I haven't seen my winner yet, I hope they come in soon.”
Linda opened at 7.30am today to a busy stream of punters checking their tickets. She believes the winner phoned her last night to check the numbers with his wife.
'They are coming in, but I don't know if it is today or not,” says Linda.
Linda and husband Jensen, who own the lucky Tauranga store, found out they sold the winning ticket around 9pm on Wednesday.
'I couldn't sleep all night.”
The Lotteries Commission is expected to arrive and dress the shop with new posters and balloons at some stage today.
The Tauranga winner gets a prize package worth $27,004,410, comprising $25,592,110 cash, a Lamborghini Gallardo, an Audi Q7, a Rayglass 2200 boat, a $50,000 Visa Platinum Card and $50,000 worth of travel, and $675,000 cash towards a bach.
It is AJ's first Big Wednesday First Division win, but they have had six Lotto First Division wins, and one Strike First Division, says Karen Jones at the Lotteries Commission.
They've also had one Winning Wheel winner, Division 8.
'Our local territory representative is going like to dress up a store with ‘Big Winner Sold Here' posters,” says Karen.
'The money all goes to the prize winner, but with a massive prize of this size there will be a massive burst of publicity for the store and that does normally result in higher weekly sales.
'If you get a reputation as a lucky store people like to buy their tickets there.”
The previous biggest prizes were the $36.8million Big Wednesday prize won by a family syndicate from Masterton in 2009, and $28.7million Lotto Powerball prize that went to a Papakura pig hunter in October 2010.
If last night's prize is won by one person, it will be the third biggest prize in NZ Lotteries' history.
The winning numbers were 5, 6, 10, 20, 48 and 49, while the coin toss was heads. There were no division 2 winners.
It is the first time Big Wednesday's first division prize has been won since March when an Auckland family won $11.4m.
