Golfing for Gabrielle at Waihi Golf Club

On Thursday this week [ March 23] the usual Waihi monthly meat pack tournament was extended to 'The Golfing for Gabrielle” fund raiser to help the Hawke's Bay flood victims.

With a perfect autumn day the upgraded meat packs and raffle prizes were keenly contested, and a good donation will be made to this needy fund from the proceeds.

The top results were, for the best Gross it was Greg Rosevear with a 76, while the best nett was won by Life Member, John Drent with a fine nett 66.

The best stableford was won on a countback by Gary Dunlop with38 points. Other prize winners were, in division 1, Rhys Peden had 38 points, followed by Graeme Parkinson 37, and Allen Sarjant with 36, with a host of others on 35. In division 2, Bryce Bevin and Jenny Tubman both also had 38 points, with Greg Bundle on 37. Rhys Miller and Mike Rose finished with 36 points. Rodger Bagshaw and Graham Curd next with 35.

MONDAY VETS:

A good field of 50 Vets gathered for their weekly competition. While Karen Croker and Adrianne Lynch both had fine 40 stableford points, it was immaterial as the competition for the day was for the least amount of putting strokes.

This was won by Heidi Tormey and Allen Smith who both only had 26 putts for the 18 holes. Next were Bruce Rutterr and Gyan Prole who recorded 28 putts, with Michael Bonnici and Kerry Lewis with 29. Two's were scored by Heidi Tomey, Wendy Matutinovich, and Gyan Prole.

NINE HOLE MIXED HAGGLE:

Fortunately the rain held off on Tuesday for the players to enjoy their weekly competition.

Some great golf was played with Vicky Knight scoring 22 stableford points, and she was closely followed by John Vautier, Jill Morrison, and Julia Nicolson all with 21. Next were Jenni Mora and Margaret Meldrum with18.

WEDNESDAY LADIES:

This week the ladies played best stableford pairs, by hole. This different competition was enjoyable and some close scores were achieved.

First were Karen Digglemann/Dot Ramsey with 46 points, while second was Kaylene Croker/Sue White with 45, and next Viv Lilley/Helen Hunkin on 44, then Anke Hermannsdorfer/Jill Morrison 42. The 'Dreamers Player of the Week” was Phillipa Harvey for her 69 nett.

SATURDAY LADIES:

The combined Ladies Sections also played their part by running a large raffle for 'the Golfing for Gabrielle” fund raiser.

This week the Saturday ladies played the first round of the Nancy McCormick 4somes. In the day's nett haggle Jackie Robson was first with 69, With Carol Leary next with 70, then Vivienne Lilley 72.

SATURDAY MEN:

In the morning haggle, division 1, Tim Parish finished the best to have 39 points, while Ross Sayer and Allen Sarjant both had 37. Alex Standfield and Grant Robson had 36 points, while Jonathan Clare scored 35. In division 2, The senior members came to the fore, with Bob Hoggard having a splendid 43 points, while next were Bill Lind and Harry Shepherd both registering 39, with Paul Morgan was next on 37.

In the afternoon field Mike Rose came out on top in a countback with David Campbell, with both having 40 points. Next was Nic Davies on 39, while John Burns, Michael Matutinovich, John Taylor, Murray Gutry, and Gary Morrison all had 38 points.
