Bay chases third successive victory

An unbeaten Northern Region record and the Steamers curtain raiser takes centre stage in the Bay of Plenty representative rugby program this weekend.

The Bay of Plenty under 16 A representatives have posted a unbeaten record in the Northern Region competition this season having defeated North Harbour and Counties Manukau in their first two encounters.

They opened their Northern Region season defeating North Harbour 29-12 and backed up last week with a 24-15 win against Counties Manukau.

This Saturday they will play in a local derby when they take on their Bay under 16 B counterparts at Te Ariki Park in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Christian Kelly has made his mark in the side scoring three tries with fullback Connor Fifita grabbing a double against Counties.

The Bay of Plenty under 18 team will provide the entrée to the Steamers game against Auckland at the Rotorua International Stadium on this afternoon.

Team supporters and friends will be finishing work early with the game against Counties Manukau kicking off at 3.45pm.

Another tough encounter awaits the Bay of Plenty Development side who face the cream of Auckland age group rugby at the main game at Te Ariki Park on Saturday.

A multitude of previous Auckland under 21 team members who the Bay side face this weekend, have gone on to higher honours.

However the Bay second fifteen have shown some promising form, holding Auckland B to 27 points apiece at halftime and taking Counties Manukau down to the wire last week.

The Bay of Plenty under 20 side will travel over the Kaimai Ranges to face their Waikato age group counterparts at Fred Jones Park in Hamilton, while the Bay of Plenty Secondary Schoolgirls return to the Bay women's club competition this weekend before the Northern Region playoffs in two weeks' time.
