Tauranga Police are aware of an increase in burglaries and theft across the area and urge the community to take preventative measures and continue to report crime.
'There has been a notable increase in burglaries and theft in recent weeks, specifically involving vehicles” says Inspector Zane Smith.
'We know that these criminals are opportunistic, and we want to urge the community to take preventative measures to stop these crimes from taking place in the first instance.”
Police encourage the following preventative measures:
-Lock your vehicles and ensure all valuables are removed, including wallets, cash and credit cards.
-Install an alarm system – or if you already have one, make sure you use it – and get sensor lights fitted.
-If possible, park your vehicle in a garage, but if it must be parked on the road, try park it in a well-lit area.
-Use anti-theft devices such as steering locks, immobilisers and car alarms.
-Tradies are advised to conceal their tools.
-Please report all crimes to Police rather than taking matters into your own hands as this can put you at risk. The sooner the crime is reported, the sooner it can be investigated.
If you see any suspicious behaviour occurring now, please call 111.
Information can also be reported to Police on 105, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 after the fact.

How long...

... before we are advised to buy guns? It would seem that the rise in lawlessness and the incidences of violent crime just continue trending upwards. I'm not criticizing the Police, who are doing the best they can in the face of wet bus ticket penalties and under-investment. If it really is going to be inevitable that we simply have to defend ourselves and our property, why aren't we seeing more government action in support of Law & Order, and support of the Police? As long as crime is an easy option, there will be criminals.
