12.53pm Update: State Highway 29A is now open again following an earlier crash on the Maungatapu Bridge.
Shortly before 12 noon Police received a report of a 'nose to tail' collision between two cars on the southbound lane of SH29A, Maungatapu.
Police report that one person has received moderate injuries.
SH29A has reopened. The Tauranga Transport Operations Centre says there is still considerable congestion in the area which will take time to clear.
Delays may be expected for some time.
12.30pm Update: Emergency services are responding to a two-vehicle crash on the Maungatapu Causeway Bridge on State Highway 29A.
Shortly before 12 noon Police received a report of a 'nose to tail' collision between two cars on the southbound lane of SH29A, Maungatapu.
"Police are attending, the road is reported to be blocked and one person has moderate injuries," says a police spokesperson.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to expect delays."
Tauranga Transport Operations Centre advises that the SH29A lane toward Baypark is blocked on the Maungatapu Bridge.
"Emergency Services on scene. Expect delays SH29A in both directions," says a TTOC spokesperson.
Earlier, 12pm: Emergency services are responding to a vehicle crash on State Highway 29A between Maungatapu and the Baypark Truman Lane intersection.
It is unknown yet if there are any injuries.
Traffic is reported to be building up in the area with the lane from Maungatapu towards Mount Maunganui blocked.
A SunLive reader says two vehicles have been involved in a nose-to-tail crash.
Motorists are advised to delay their journey or take an alternative route.
