A Katikati resident is dismayed at the sight of the Tauranga Presbyterian Cemetery on visiting it this week.
'On the 24th April I and my daughter visited the 18th Ave Cemetery and this is what we found,” she says in an email sent to SunLive.
Photos attached to the email show overgrown grass around the headstones creating an unkempt appearance.

"We were disgusted. This cemetery hasn't been mowed for so long the grass was over the small headstones and half way up the big ones.
"Just because they have left this earth it doesn't mean they have to look like this. Your Council should be [word removed] to let this happen to a place like this.
"I just hope the other cemeteries aren't like this one."

The Tauranga Anglican Cemetery is located at the junction of Seventeenth Avenue and Grace Road, in Tauranga South and has 1993 graves.
The burial records at Tauranga Anglican Cemetery start from the first burial on May 8, 1881, of Augusta Elizabeth Corlett, wife of BS Corlett in Row 2, Section 1.

Tauranga City Council is responsible for the mowing and maintenance of cemetery grounds in the city and Tauranga Anglican Cemetery is usually well-kept.
"We are working hard to get back on top of mowing across the city following unprecedented seasonal growth," says council's spaces & places operations manager Warren Aitken.
"We acknowledge that grass has grown over the base of some gravestones in a section of the Tauranga Anglican Cemetery. Our team will complete the maintenance of this section as soon as possible.

Warren says that under normal circumstances cemetery grounds are mowed on a fortnightly maintenance schedule by the council's cemetery team.
"Cemeteries play an important role in our community not only as places to visit lost loved ones, but also as peaceful spaces for reflection and remembrance.
"We want everyone to be proud of their city and keeping our cemeteries well-maintained and beautiful is big part of that.
"Warren would like to hear from anyone who may notice areas around the city that need attention.
"If people see an area in need of maintenance, then we ask them to please report it to us. Residents can call us on 07 577 7000, or email info@tauranga.govt.nz and we're available 24/7, even on public holidays."

You need to visit Shortland Cemetery Thames, it is in a terrible state. The front part is not too bad but the old part with first settlers is dangerous, steel pegs sticking up on the old pathway, trees growing thought gravesite. My Great grandparents and Uncle are buried there.
It is not the only place
