Armed police are reportedly blocking a road in the Western Bay of Plenty this morning.

A SunLive reader has emailed in saying there are armed police at a property on Turner Road, Apata.

"Where the recent explosion was.

"They have been there since 5am and not letting anyone through to go work."

A police spokesperson confirms that an operation is currently underway.

"There is a search warrant being executed. There's no further information available at this stage."
