For Tauranga teenager Claire Gourley cooking is fun but also a valuable life skill which is why she's again fronting It's My Turn to Cook Tonight Bosch School Holiday Programme.
The 18-year-old Bethlehem College student who is studying business at Auckland University is again running the popular online programme this October.
Making cooking fun, Claire Gourley of It's My Turn to Cook Tonight Bosch School Holiday Programme passes on some cooking tips to Jessica Wilson of Tauranga.
'I'm not a foodie but I want to eat great tasting food that's good for me and easy to prepare,” says Claire.
Launched during the Easter holidays, the first online programme was such a success it will run again from October 2-4, says Claire's mum, food educator Glenda Gourley. This time 5+ A Day is also supporting the programme.
Each morning of the programme Claire will be on You Tube, outlining the day's challenges and recipes, and every afternoon she and her mum will answer questions and post photos, videos and responses from those taking part.
Both Glenda and Claire believe teaching children to be food savvy and learning to cook gives them life-long skills which will help them keep healthy and save money.
'There's no doubt that you can save a bundle once you know how to cook. It's almost always cheaper to cook at home,” says Claire.
The children who register for the programme learn to cook at home while they hang out with other kids online.
It's not just cooking, they slip in all sorts of other foodie things – like making food choices, reading labels, kitchen safety, plus they gain confidence both in the kitchen and on the computer. Activities and competitions encourage the children to share, contribute, be creative, create an occasion to eat together and do something nice for other people.
Enroll your kids in the It's My Turn to Cook Tonight Bosch School Holiday Programme at www.foodsavvykids.com and sit back while the kids have fun, learn food skills and cook your dinner.
'It's the ultimate win/win, for parents. No, you are not being lazy insisting your children cook you dinner – you are encouraging your kids to get food skills that will last a lifetime. The school holidays could well be a holiday for you too,” says Glenda.
SunLive has two enrolments for It's My Turn to Cook Tonight Bosch School Holiday Programme, which includes the on-line programme and e-copies of Claire's Book 'Who's Cooling Tonight?” and Glenda's book 'Life love food kids,” to give away.
To be in to win SunLive is inviting parents, caregivers or grandparents to send in their answers to the following question – 'How good would it feel if your kids cooked dinner tonight?” to [email protected]
The competition closes on September 28.
