A person has sustained moderate injuries after being assaulted in Mount Maunganui.

A SunLive reader emailed in this morning to report what they believed was a stabbing on Taupo Ave.

A large police presence was seen in the area at the time of the incident.

A police spokesperson says they were notified at about 7.25am that a person had been assaulted with a weapon (not a firearm) at an address on Taupo Avenue, Mount Maunganui.

"The person has sustained moderate injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

"The offender left the scene before Police arrived.

"Police are making enquiries into the circumstances of the incident and to locate the offender."

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact their nearest police station.
