Anzac Day burglaries: Police hunting offenders

The crimes happened in the early hours of nzac Day.

Police are working to put a stop to car crimes in the Eastern Bay of Plenty following a ram raid at dairy on Anzac Day.

A young person has been referred to Youth Aid as police continue to investigate two burglaries in Whakatāne on Anzac Day.

About 3.45am on April 25, Police received a report that a vehicle had been used to enter a dairy on Appenzell Drive, and items were taken.

Then about 4.55am, Police were called to Bridge Street, Edgecumbe, following a report of a burglary at a service station, where a window had been smashed and entry gained.

"An earlier search warrant at a Kawerau address resulted in items relating to the burglaries being recovered and a young person being taken into custody and charged," says a police spokesperson.

"Yesterday, detectives executed a further search warrant at a Kawerau address, and further items relating to the burglary were recovered. A young person has been referred to Youth Aid."

Police say there are still outstanding offenders in relation to these incidents, and Police are now asking them to come forward.

"Similarly we would like to hear from anyone with information about those involved in these incidents.

"Police are actively investigating car crime within Kawerau and the wider Eastern Bay of Plenty, and would like to hear from anyone with information that will assist Police with holding offenders to account and putting a stop to this offending."
