Floods hit Waihi, SH25 reopens to Whiritoa

UPDATE 4.19pm: State Highway 25 between Waihi and Whiritoa is now reopen, and Waihi residents are sharing the impacts of the "full scale" floods and evacuations in the region.

A SunLive reader says EMS services are evacuating people near the gas station.

On social media, local resident Mandie Thompson says the flooding happened "so fast".

Another Faceook user says they "have not seen such sheer volumes" of rain in their life, on the Waihi / Waihi Beach Noticeboard Facebook page.

EARLIER 3.08pm: State Highway 25 between Waihi and Whiritoa is closed in both directions due to flooding.

A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says motorists should follow directions of emergency services.

"Expect delays."
