Racing Tauranga and NZTR have made the call to cancel this Saturdays Kiwifruit Cup Race Day.
Racing Tauranga general manager Louise Dean, says after seeing how wet the track is already with the recent rainfall, and the 'impending weather bomb”, it has been decided to make the early call to move the meeting.
With the adverse weather currently being experienced in Tauranga and the ongoing rain forecast to continue, NZTR, after discussion with the Tauranga Racing Club & RIB have transferred the Seeka Kiwifruit Cup Day to the Cambridge Synthetic. The meeting will now be run as a Cambridge Jockey Club Meeting.
'It's a big blow to Racing Tauranga” says Louise.
'As this day is a big one for us, with the long running Seeka Kiwifruit Cup and the team wealleans listed race, features on the calendar.
As well it's the Super Liquor punter of the year competition and we had over 150 booked in for a 'Mid Winter Christmas party”, but horse welfare and jockey safety is our main priority.
'We look forward to the new race season beginning in August as in November we will be celebrating 50 years of Racing in Tauranga, and tickets for our ever popular Christmas at the race meetings will go on sale next month.”
