Mount Maunganui crash and power cut

Over 1200 Mount Maunganui properties are without power following a vehicle crash.

Ocean Beach Road, Marine Parade, and Tweed Street in Mount Maunganui are closed following a crash, says Police.

Power lines are reported to be down across the roads.

Powerco is reporting that over 1200 properties are without power. The main outages are on Oceanbeach Road and Golf Road.

The power cut occurred at 8.01pm. The estimated restoration time is 12.15am.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE hotline says the power went out "after a crash".

"The crash has happened near the Oceanbeach Road roundabout," says the caller.

"Motorists will not be able to pass through the area until the scene has been cleared," says a police spokesperson.

"One person is reported to have minor to moderate injuries.

"Please avoid the area or take an alternate route to avoid congestion."

We heard the impact on Golf Rd as the power went out.
