The family of a teen killed with her partner in a fiery crash in Hamilton say they feel ‘numb' over the loss.
Police have named Kerihaehae Nepe and Charlie Russell, both 19 and from Hamilton, as the couple killed in the crash on Sunday morning.
Nepe was also known as Rangimarie Nepe.
Police were called to the crash between a car and a truck on Ulster Street in Whitiora, about 3.45am on July 9.
The car caught fire following the crash, and three officers were treated for smoke inhalation after pulling occupants from the vehicle while it was ablaze.
Two people were taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition. While three others, understood to be police officers involved in the rescue of survivors were discharged and recovering at home on Sunday.
Nepe's father Melvin Te Wake posted on Facebook 'My big girl, my number one, my honeygirl. I don't even know what to say or how to feel. This is not fair. I f..... love you. I'm gonna miss you baby. I already do. Rest in love my honeygirl.”
He had earlier posted asking if anyone had seen his daughter.
Russell's sister, Natalia Sinclair, also posted tributes: 'Losing a little brother has to be the most Numbing s... if i weren't already numb before.. I love you Charlie Russell missing you can't stop thinking.”
'I love you Charlie Russell and Rangimarie Nepe.... I'm numb... Love you both so much. Rest in Love you beautiful souls.”
On Monday police said speed was a major factor that is being investigated.
Police said they were not pursuing the car before the crash.
'We can confirm a police unit was already on patrol in the vicinity of the crash at the time it occurred, and was able to respond instantly.”
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
