The Chorus Cabinet Art Programme is back, in partnership with Creative Bay of Plenty and The Breeze Tauranga, and the call is out for designs from local artists
This year a further ten cabinets across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty have been chosen for beautification and artists are encouraged to get their designs in before the deadline of August 18.
Last year’s project was so successful that Chorus and Creative Bay of Plenty are extending their programme further to the Western Bay of Plenty to reach more local artists and support the community.
Communications and marketing lead Rose Treadwell will again be co-ordinating designs and artists this year.
Rose says it is a great opportunity for artists to showcase their talents to not only the Western Bay of Plenty community but also the wider world.
“Each year we run a competition with The Breeze Tauranga for listeners to submit theme ideas for the cabinet murals. This year’s theme as voted by listeners is ‘Diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand’.”
These cabinets become works of art in the street, often telling stories about the communities in which they are located and help beautify the local area.
Chorus community relations manager Jo Seddon says it makes sense to partner with local community arts groups as they know their communities best and we share a common goal when it comes to street beautification.
“Our local techs nominated the cabinets in need of a makeover and we’re really looking forward to seeing what local artists come up with.”
Requests for designs are open now and close August and the winning design for each cabinet will be chosen from entries received.
This is a paid opportunity for artists.
