Two to appear in court following burglary arrests

Two youth are in custody and will appear in court following burglaries in the Bay of Plenty on Monday.

"Two people have been arrested on Monday, following two burglaries at stores in Whakatāne and Lake Rotoma early on Monday morning," says a police spokesperson.

Police responded to reports of a burglary at a store on State Highway 30, Lake Rotoma around 1.30am Monday July 31.

"One offender smashed the door to gain entry, where they stole food, drinks, and a cash register.

"The three men drove to a second store on The Strand, Whakatāne, around 5am where they stole clothing, jewellery, and accessories."

Police say two men were located on Onslow Street later that morning around 11am and taken into custody.

Items stolen earlier that morning were located and seized.

 A 17-year-old man has been remanded in Oranga Tamariki custody and is due to appear in Whakatane Youth Court later this month.

 An 18-year-old man has been remanded in custody due to re-appear in Whakatane District Court August 18, on two charges of burglary and one charge of resisting Police.
