Desert Road, SH1, is closed between Rangipo and Waiouru gates due to snow.

Northbound traffic is able to detour via SH49, SH4, SH47, SH46 and back onto SH1, according to Waka Kotahi.

Reverse is available for southbound traffic.

"Please note, this detour will add at least 40 minutes to your journey time," says a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.
