Adventure film enthusiasts are getting ready for an adrenaline-fueled cinematic extravaganza this weekend with a one-night-only unforgettable evening of thrills and excitement.

Shem Banbury and Richard Watson have been hosting the Tauranga Mountain Film Festival for the last seven to eight years, and are looking forward to putting on two more hours of high-octane adventure on Saturday.

“Unleash your inner adventurer and embark on an unforgettable journey with us,” says Shem.

Movie enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike are in for a treat as a carefully curated selection of heart-pounding adventure films prepares to grace the big screen, promising an immersive journey into the realms of action, exploration, and daring escapades.

“We will be screening six adventure films that run from 11 minutes to 40 minutes being the longest.”

The one-night festival of edge-of-your-seat storytelling includes Janwaar, a film by Danny Schmidy as he follows a rambunctious group of kids whose lives are transformed when a skatepark is built in their small Indian village.

The other five films are a showcase of the world’s best adventure films.

In 1976 British alpinists made the first ascent of the West Wall of Changabang. In 2022, three members of the New Zealand Alpine Team tried their luck on this infamous climb.

Another film showcases Gulmit Tower, a technical granite pinnacle that has never been summited, nestled within the Karakoram mountains. Maybe a paraglider can help?

Also watch the journey of Angie Scarth-Johnson who, by the age of 18, had climbed three 35 grade climbs.

And finally, can you imagine climbing Lake Hawea’s Corner Peak 53 times over 53 days?
