It’s time to get ready for a cinematic experience under the stars.

Ōmokoroa Point School PTA are inviting everyone to an enchanting evening of outdoor entertainment as they host ‘A Night at the Movies’ under the open sky with Night Owl Cinema on Saturday.

Tickets are still available, so grab your blankets, lawn chairs, and enjoy your favourite movie snacks while gathering with the Ōmokoroa community for this school fundraiser that promises to combine the magic of movies with the beauty of the great outdoors.

“We are showing ‘Strange World’,” says PTA member E-J Weller. “This is our final fundraiser for the year and we've had really successful community support with our other fundraisers this year.”

E-J says people can bring food or purchase food on site.

“We have food trucks coming and our Year 7/8s are holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser. So we'll have sausages, as well as food from Ōmokoroa Beach Pizzeria, Kelly's, Tia's Tacos, and Fika.

“We'll also have candy floss, popcorn and glow sticks available for sale, so make sure to bring cash as well.”

As a rubbish-free event, the organisers ask that people take their own rubbish home with them, and purchase their tickets in advance as there will be no gate sales.

Last year’s movie ‘Sing 2’ was so popular, the PTA committee decided to look for a similarly dazzling animated film to screen this year.

Disney’s ‘Strange World’ is a 2022 American computer-animated science-fiction adventure film that follows a legendary family of explorers who must set aside their differences as they embark on a journey to a mysterious subterranean land inhabited by surreal lifeforms, in order to save a miracle plant Pando that is their society's source of energy.

Along with the movie, there will be a number of silent auctions organised by Tall Poppy Ōmokoroa, says E-J.

“The three ladies at Tall Poppy Ōmokoroa are just fabulous,” says E-J. “They are our major sponsor for the event for the second year running. Tall Poppy has covered all the costs of the night, and they will spend a day beforehand making candy floss. They have also put together all the items for the silent auction.”

Auction items include vouchers and services from Your Hair Coach with Chrissy Heathorn, Halcyon Acupuncture, Caroline Sykes from Craigs Investment Partners, Let’s Talk animal training with Steve Bone, Diane Gill at Ōmokoroa Accounting, Darren Wilks Builder/Wilks Contracting, Rothbury Insurance Brokers, Lise Goodeve Skincare, Mitchell Machines, Ōmokoroa Beach Pizzeria, The Recovery Room, and water boat safety training with Steve Bone.

Get ready to relax, unwind, and enjoy a delightful film in the company of friends and fellow supporters, all while contributing to a great cause.

“Wrap up really warm as the weather looks clear but cold,” says E-J.

‘A Night at the Movies’ with Night Owl Cinema, is on at the Ōmokoroa Point School field on Hamurana Rd, Ōmokoroa on Saturday September 2. Gates open at 5pm, with the movie starting at 7pm.

Tickets: $6 child, $12 adult, $25 family of four.  No gate sales. This is an alcohol-free family event.
