Around 140 parking related fines are issued per day in Tauranga – mainly due to “lack of knowledge” about parking rules, according to Tauranga City Council.
The $9300 in fines issued per day is not directly paid to the council however, says Tauranga City Council regulation monitoring team leader Stuart Goodman.
This is because the council collects about “50 per cent” of infringement fees issued.
An exact number on daily council revenue from parking tickets cannot be given, according to the spokesperson, as fines are often paid to council and through the courts “many months” after they are issued.
“The majority of disputes that we receive are due to the lack of knowledge about the parking rules.
“Some disputes claim extenuating circumstances, but each dispute is considered on a case-by-case basis. The most common are those failing to pay for parking or parking over the time limit,” says Stuart.
“A less common offence our officers issue infringements for is for incorrect kerb parking.”
The council spokesperson notes a vehicle must park on the left-hand side of the road parallel with the direction of the roadway.
Tauranga City Council has also received reports some drivers have been parking in temporary bus stops along Cameron Road, while roadworks are underway, resulting in buses having to let passengers on and off in “live traffic lanes”.
“This is not safe for bus users, and we ask that drivers please show consideration and park away from these areas.
“Drivers cannot drive, park or stop on the footpath, shared path or two-way cycleway on Cameron Road.
“To help avoid getting a parking ticket, the public can look out for parking signs. All paid parking and time restrictions are signposted.”

Is for TCC to use some of that money to do a letterbox drop and cellphone text to ALL residents of the Mount and Tauranga to inform them of EXACTLY what the latest 'rules' are. The rules KEEP CHANGING!!!!! STOP THE CHANGES!!! How can ANYONE keep up with the rule changes??!!!
Another anomaly

So how is it that "buses having to let passengers on and off in live traffic lanes" on Cameron Road is "not safe for bus users", yet when that very scenario is designed into Ngatai Road, the council trumpets it as a safety improvement?

at all the shopping centers ie Bethlehem,Tauriko,Gate pa,Fraser cove etc.
Must be catching the stragglers that are shopping at the 2 shops left in the city center.
Just goes to show that at least 9300 people per day are idiots even going to the city center and getting fined. WHY? Oh yea free parking yesterday but not this week but probably might be next week tho.

Well again poor CBD businesses. This is a reminder message that going into the CBD is only when absolutely necessary. The days of going into town to shop meet for coffee or lunch is fraught with difficulty and easier to go elsewhere
Parking signage

The parking signage is woefully inadequate. Eg enter Grey St from Spring St and spy a space in angle parking area on the right hand side. Pay for an hours parking and walk along to prearranged meeting point where I’m alerted to the fact that I might have used a 15min space. On walking back towards the car I clearly saw the sign high up on the pole, facing Elizabeth st. (Probably the one in the photograph in the SunLive article). Historically such signage has been placed parallel to the road, why is it now placed nearly at right angles and, therefore, out of sight from the other side. And what’s more why aren’t there signs at both ends of the applicable section of spaces?

The deluge of idiots that "9300" would represent, is thankfully, only 140 per day (9300 was the revenue generated, not the number of fines...), and some of these are poor souls who have no option but to go to town. However, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. Another 9300 per day, on top of the 900 already working for the Commissioners, would probably be more than our city could bear...
Let's be thankful that the idiot collection is confined to the administration buildings and
