Cameron Road work planned for the coming week

Work continues along Cameron Road this week with a large focus on resurfacing.

“This is a milestone activity for the team because it is among the final elements of construction,” says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

“Resurfacing involves digging up the surface to even the road even before laying down a new asphalt surface.

“This usually takes place as evening works to minimise disruption, with lane closures and diversions in place. Because asphalting cannot occur in wet weather, some works may take longer to complete.”

The team is also planting the centre median along Cameron Road.

“There will be right lane closures around planting zones, which will shift as work progresses.”

Each section of work is expected to take up to four days.

“We ask those travelling to and from Tauranga Hospital to be aware of a night closure from 6pm to 6am, from this Sunday on Cameron Road between Sixteenth Avenue and 17th Avenue.

“From 6pm Sunday, September 10, the team will be working to install ducting for the new traffic signals on Cameron Road.

“There will be a full road closure in place for five nights from 6pm to 6am between Sixteenth Avenue and 17th Avenue.”

Northbound traffic will be diverted along 17th Avenue, Devonport Road and Fifteenth Avenue. Southbound traffic will be diverted along Sixteenth Avenue (east), Devonport Road and 17th Avenue.

“This work involves deep hydrovac excavations.

“There is noise and vibration associated with this work, however, we will aim to keep this to a minimum. Access to properties will be maintained.”

Council says this work is weather dependent and if it is not completed within these dates, it will continue into the following days.

“We ask that you take these works into account when you plan your journey and thank drivers for their patience and understanding.

“You can check here for travel updates. We also recommend checking Google Maps or Waka Kotahi NZTA Journey Planner.”

Night works (6pm – 6am)

Closure of Cameron Road southbound lanes between Eleventh Avenue and Thirteenth Avenue: from 6pm Sunday, September 10 (weather dependent), the southbound lanes (heading away from the city) of Cameron Road will be closed for three nights (6pm to 6am) for resurfacing. Southbound traffic will be diverted along Eleventh Avenue, Devonport Road and Thirteenth Avenue.

This work is weather dependent and may continue into the coming week. These works do not include the Thirteenth Avenue intersection, which will remain open. The Thirteenth Avenue intersection will also be resealed – the timing for this is yet to be confirmed.

Cameron Road at the Eleventh Avenue intersection: work to install traffic signal ducting across Cameron Road is underway at nights (6pm to 6am) from the south-west corner (McDonald's) to the south-east corner (The Flooring Room).

Work is also underway to install traffic signal ducting on the north-west corner (Z service station) to the north-east corner (Jay Car). These works both involve saw-cutting and excavation. There is noise and vibration associated with this work.

Sixth Avenue intersection: from 6pm Monday, September 11, the team will be carrying out work to install ducting across Cameron Road for the new traffic signals at the Sixth Avenue intersection. Noise and vibration are associated with these works, which involve concrete cutting. We expect this work to take six nights (weather dependent). There will be alternating lane closures in place as we work around the intersection.

17th Avenue (west): from 6pm Tuesday, September 12, the team will be installing traffic signal ducting at the 17th Avenue intersection.

Work will begin on the north-west (My Ride cycle shop) corner, with the exit from 17th Avenue (west) on to Cameron Road closed for one night (weather dependent).

Traffic will be able to enter 17th Avenue (west) from Cameron Road but will need to travel along Clarke Street to Twentieth Avenue to return to Cameron Road.

From 6pm Wednesday, September 13, the team will move across to the south-west (Tauranga Hospital), with the entry to 17th Avenue from Cameron Road closed for one night. Traffic will be diverted along Twentieth Avenue and Clarke Street to access 17th Avenue (west) and Cameron Road.

This work is weather dependent and may occur during the following nights if not completed on the dates above.

Fifteenth Avenue intersection resurfacing works: in the coming weeks, the team will be resealing the Fifteenth Avenue intersection.

“We expect this work to take three nights, weather dependent.

“Noise and vibration are associated with this work. There will be lane closures and diversions in place while this work is underway.”

bull…. shovelled than anything else. I think it started in early 2021. Few of us will live to see it finished.

It's a farce.

I live in the affected aea and have seen businesses that have been there for over 20 years driven to bankruptcy and "almost bankruptcy" with no sign of any relief from the Council. (Not even a Rates holiday...). I'd give in if it made sense, even in the long term, but it doesn't. We needed to replace drains, OK. We DON"T need to have TWO-WAY cycle lanes that services less than 10% of the population (I remember using a single bike lane when riding to school), we wouldn't need to have wider bus lanes if they had bought smaller buses, and flower beds, while nice-to-have (if they are maintained), are a lower priority than getting from A to B. We could extend Cameron Road to three lanes in both directions if we were not paying service to a stupid (failed) policy designed to get us out of cars.
