Police investigating the death of a woman in Mount Maunganui have arrested a man in relation to the crime.

An 80-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the death of a woman at a residential address in Mount Maunganui last night.

Police were called to the address at 6.55pm on Sunday, October 8, says a police spokesperson.

"A 78-year-old woman was found deceased at the address.

"The man has been charged with murder and is scheduled to appear in Tauranga District Court today."
