Dancing, waving hands and greeting all the road users while waiting for their signals to change, is the technique the traffic spotters at the intersection of Dive Cres and The Strand are using, to make people's time more bearable while on the road.
"This is the best way to cheer people up while they wait for us to change the signal from stop to go, besides is another way to enjoy our work instead of just being here standing up." Says one of the spotters while waving her hand to a mum and their kids heading towards the city centre.
“There are a lot of road works in the city these days and that is certainly a nightmare, is nice to see how these girls go that extra mile doing their jobs in a very different way to make people laugh and forget a bit of all the chaos,” says one of the drivers at the intersection.
The road works on this intersection are part of the City Centre Action and Renovation Investment Plan 2022 – 2032. To revitalise the city centre and transform the waterfront. This work started with the upgrade of the Dive Crescent carpark recently reopened and the improvement of the Beacon Wharf.
According to the Tauranga City Council, Improvements to Beacon Wharf along Dive Crescent, are set to be completed by mid-next year.
This is probably a personal initiative of the traffic spotters on the intersection between The Strand and Dive Cres, but it has made the day for the drivers and people who have enjoyed their moves and the good vibe.

I pass these 'lollipoppers' several times every day and they are absolutely awesome. I actually look forward to seeing them and stopping - NEVER thought I'd be saying that.
A real credit to the company they work for. THANK YOU.
Superb
