Calls are being put out to the Bay of Plenty community to help support nature heroes to fly high with their conservation efforts.

In the Bay of Plenty, Bay Conservation Alliance (BCA) supports 29 community conservation groups, all with a common purpose: working to protect & restore the Taiao (Environment). BCA’s role is to connect & support these passionate volunteers, by providing them with resources & funding, so they can get on with the real mahi/work.

BCA, with guidance from the Genersoity Geneator, is undertaking its first ever crowd funding campaign.

“Our “backyard” is unique, but many ecosystems & species are declining. The good news is, together we can make a difference to protect it for future generations,” says BCA CEO Michelle Elborn.

Last year alone, 3000 volunteers - AKA Nature Heroes - within these groups spent more than 52,000 hours planting 65,000 trees and caught more than 8300 pests.

What an incredible display of passion, knowledge and skills, and they come back driven to achieve more, motivated by the positive benefits of volunteering, says Michelle.

“Individually, most groups have very limited budgets with no easy funding paths, so they rely on BCA to help them.

“We need your help to raise $10k so we can power up more Nature Hero activity!

Your donation will make a very real difference.”

Through previous generous donations, Michelle says they have already enabled the creation of a new rehabilitation aviary for injured birds; monitoring equipment like bat detectors to measure populations; traps for those pesky predators; planting projects and health and safety equipment to keep volunteers safe.
