Players sought for summer leagues

Volleyball Tauranga is gearing up for another busy summer of volleyball leagues and locals are being encouraged to sign up.

League convener Tim Cleaver says leagues cater to all levels from social adult grades to competitive level.

Everyone is invited to join up for Volleyball Tauranga's summer leagues.

Tim says volleyball is a great way to get together with friends.

'It's played on a nine metre by nine metre court, so you can chat to your team mates, and the opposition, between points.

'The fitness is different from other indoor sports; it's a lot more short explosive bursts of activity without a lot of continuous running.

'Volleyball is also great for hand-eye coordination and agility.”

For beginners there is social grade scheduled for Monday nights at the TECT Arena at Baypark beginning on October 29. Entries close October 23.

'There is also a social grade for those who know what they are doing but just want to have some fun.”

For those with a more competitive drive, there are two grades at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre at Memorial Park on Thursday nights.

Tim says this league, which has been running for almost 40 years, is perfect for people who are looking to get back into volleyball after being competitive at school.

'This is a great league to be involved with and a chance to see the players from the Tauranga rep teams that picked up three medals at this year's National Club Volleyball Champs in Nelson.”
