Can anybody explain to me, please?

Casey Costello came second. But isn't she already a member of Parliament? From other observed interactions (public debates, general messages...) I find myself generally in agreement with her, so I am interested in how her career progresses. Why would an existing MP be standing for a bye-election? Anyone?
I would say..........

....and do correct if wrong please, Ms Costello came in from her position on the NZ First list, so if she had been elected to Parliament then I would say there would be another NZ First position available up for grabs to the next on the list, also the rewards are greater I believe for elected MP's over list MP's....
She is/was a prominent member of Hobsons Pledge and with her experience I would think a valuable member of Parliament under either appointment.....

Ah, the old "List MP" caused my confusion. (I wonder if I am the only one... ? :-)) Many thanks for your clarification.
