Large police operation in Western Bay

Members of the public are reporting a large police operation in the Western Bay of Plenty.

A number of people have contacted SunLive to report a large police presence on Poripori Road.

"What's happening with large police presence and vans on Poripori Road, been there all day," says once SunLive reader.

Another reader called the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline to report a large white tent on a farm on Poripori Road.

Another reader called in saying it looked like a "murder scene".

The caller says there was an evidence truck, about six police cars and a tent when she drove past.

"A grid search was also being carried out."

SunLive contacted police to find out what was happening in the area.

A police spokesperson confirmed there is an operation taking place.

"Police conducted a pre-planned search warrant at an address on Poripori Road, Lower Kaimai, today.

"Police were armed as precaution this morning and are now conducting routine enquiries."

No other information is available at this stage.
